What is Binder Jet Printing?
Binder Jetting 3D printing (BJP) is the most widely known process for 3D printing a green body of metal or ceramic powders, of which particles are bonded by polymeric binder. The binder is dispensed over a layer of powder by an ink jet nozzle at specific microscale locations controlled by the computer 2D model, much like a conventional printer. 3D parts are built by printing 2D layers sequentially. The binder jetting techniques have been applied to many different metals and ceramic materials, including titanium. We are incorporating the BJP technique in our research on novel titanium powder sintering and microstructure engineering to achieve high performance and low cost in Ti alloys and components.
