What is Direct Energy Deposition?
Direct energy deposition (DED) is a very popular additive manufacturing technique for metal alloy research. The InssTek laboratory unit that has just been installed in our center can feed six different powders at the same time, enabling a tremendous capacity for making customized alloys. We plan to use the InssTek DED machine to develop novel and complex metal alloys, including titanium alloys.
The U of U and IPX team use Direct Energy Deposition technology to research metal alloys.
